CHENNAI: An unique stall promoting Kanchipuram silk saris was opened at MGR Chennai Central Railway Station on Friday, underneath the one station one product scheme launched to advertise native handicrafts and industries.
Southern Railway has allotted the stall on a pilot foundation for 15 days to MGR Silks Handloom Weavers Manufacturing and Gross sales, Kancheepuram, on the second entry concourse close to Higginbothams.
The GI-tagged silk saris, recognized for aesthetically fascinating gold zari and checked brocade with intricate workmanship, will probably be showcased within the stall on the market. Greater than 100 styles of silk saris can be found. The stall will probably be open until April 8.
The one station one product is an initiative envisaged within the Union Funds 2022-23 in a bid to advertise native artisans, merchandise and industries. The initiative goals at selling native merchandise by making every railway station a promotional and gross sales hub for the product. Within the first part, 16 main railway stations have been shortlisted underneath the scheme throughout the nation.
The stall was inaugurated by Uma Agarwal, president, Southern Railway Girls’s Welfare Organisation.
