RAJKOT: After elevating the difficulty of livestock exports from India a few years in the past, members of Gujarat Animal Welfare Board have now demanded a ban on serving non-vegetarian meals in home flights.
Members of the board and a few Jain neighborhood leaders have written to civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to instruct all airways to cease serving non-veg meals.
Rajendra Shah, a board member, who had raised the difficulty of livestock export from India, shot off a letter to Scindia on March 30, stating: “This request is being made on behalf of vegetarian passengers whose emotions are a lot offended with the serving (sic) of non-vegetarian meals in flights. Strictly vegetarian passengers really feel way more distressed and offended when non veg meals is served as an alternative of veg meals.”
The letter was triggered by an alleged incident when a pure vegetarian passenger was served non-veg meals by mistake on a Tokyo-Delhi flight. Speaking to TOI, Shah mentioned, “I had a chat with this traveller, who doesn't even eat onion, garlic and potato. His mother and father have been additionally terribly offended, so I requested the federal government to cease serving non-veg meals.”
Mittal Khetani, one other member of animal welfare board of India mentioned, “This isn't the difficulty of veg and non-veg meals but in addition that of hygiene. The standard of non-veg meals all the time remained uncertain.
