MADURAI: The celestial wedding ceremony of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar was held at Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple on Thursday morning amid a sea of devotees. The ceremony was held with the presence of devotees after a spot of two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The celestial wedding ceremony ceremony was held on the tenth day of the Chithirai competition. It was held on a stage embellished with tonnes of flowers. Amid chanting of hymns by the monks, the divine knot was tied at 10.50 am.
Round 20 LED screens had been put in at varied locations outdoors the temple for devotees to witness the celestial wedding ceremony.
Greater than 3,500 police personnel had been deployed for safety preparations in and across the temple.
