Coimbatore: A feminine elephant was discovered lifeless with a stillborn calf at Irattaikan Palam space in Pethikuttai reserve forest in Sirumugai forest vary on Monday night.

On Monday night, a patrol workforce of frontline forest workers discovered the feminine elephant, aged round 20 years, and stillborn male calf within the backwater space of the Bhavanisagar reservoir.
Sukumar and assistant veterinary surgeon C Thiyagarajan from Sirumugai, within the presence of T Ok Ashok Kumar, district forest officer, Coimbatore forest division, M Senthil Kumar, assistant conservator of forests, and representatives from NGOs performed the postmortem on the subsequent day morning.
“The elephant died a minimum of 36-48 hours in the past. The calf was estimated to be round 21 months outdated. The gestation interval for an elephant is round 22 months.
