Guwahati: Impartial Gujarat MLA from Vadgam and dalit chief, Jignesh Mevani, was re-arrested on Monday by Assam police on fees of assaulting a girl cop, shortly after he was launched on bail.
A neighborhood court docket in Assam’s Kokrajhar district had remanded him to a few days police custody on April 21 for “objectionable” tweets involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“BJP and RSS are doing this to tarnish my picture and are doing this systematically. They did it to Rohit Vemula, they did it to Chandrasekhar Azad, now they're focusing on me,” Mevani informed the ready media outdoors the court docket advanced after listening to about his re-arrest.
Mevani was first arrested by Assam police at Palanpur circuit home on April 20 after the legislator’s tweets on the PM and Nathuram Godse went viral. Twitter has since deleted his tweets.
An Assam BJP chief lodged a grievance, in search of motion in opposition to him below the IT Act and Mevani was charged with legal conspiracy, outraging spiritual emotions and provocation that may result in breach of peace.
