SURAT: Surat Municipal Company’s standing committee authorised growth of a traditional barrage between Rundh and Bhatha villages on river Tapi on Tuesday. The mission costing Rs 941 crore has been awarded to a developer after tendering. The barrage can have 60 vertically operated gates.
The barrage was below planning for over a decade. A number of designs had been proposed for the barrage together with balloon barrage. Nevertheless, a traditional barrage has been authorised. A 10km-long waterbody will likely be created within the downstream of Tapi between the weir-cum-causeway - Narmad Sarovar and the barrage. It'll retailer 1,700 crore litre water.
The construction’s size will likely be 1,036 metre and a flyover of 760 metre will come on Rundh finish. A retaining wall of two,100 meter will likely be developed as a part of the construction.
